DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine School of Law Honors Ira Waldman '76 at the Alumni Association Annual Dinner and Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic.The Maine Law Alumni Association has chosen to honor Ira Waldman with the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his significant contributions to a wide range of professional and community organizations, and in particular, for his support of the University of Maine School of Law. Saturday, March 27, 2010Portland Country Club6:00 pm Cocktails / 7:00 pm DinnerIra has served on the board of directors of University of Maine School of Law Foundation since its inception in 2001 and is the current chair of the Investment and Finance Committee. In 2002, he served as a Capital campaign volunteer for the Foundations for the Future Campaign. In addition to his many contributions to Maine Law, Ira is a member of the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  He also serves on the American Bar Foundation, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, the Anglo-American Real Property Institute Board of Governors, the Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Real Property Acts, and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers Board of Governors.  To add to an already impressive list, he is a member of the Planning Committee, the Community Outreach Committee and the Section Council for the American Bar Association.   Ira represents lenders and developers in all facets of real estate and commercial law, including finance, secured lender remedies, ownership entity formation, property disposition, acquisition and development, leasing activities and workouts.   Ira is a partner of the law firm Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, in Los Angeles, California, where he is a member of the Finance, Workout and Bankruptcy Teams.  He was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in New Jersey and received his B.A. degree from Bates College in 1973 and his J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1976 (Cum Laude). He is admitted to practice in California and Maine.Although Ira lives in Playa del Rey, California with his wife, Laurie, they frequently travel to Maine to visit their son, Ethan, a student at Bates College, and daughter Shayna, who lives in Boston.  Attending both Maine Law and Bates College events has become a regular part of the Waldman’s travel schedule.Ira was the recipient of the L. Kinvin Wroth Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2007 and recognized in the International Who’s Who of Real Estate Lawyers 2009.  Please join us as we honor Ira for his longstanding commitment to the University of Maine School of Law and the practice of law.
